Subtitle tools that respect your files
SubToolDesk exists because converting a caption file shouldn't require handing it to a stranger's server.
Our mission
Most subtitle and transcript converters online are free to use but quietly expensive in a different currency: they ask you to upload your file to a remote server before they'll touch it. For a public YouTube video that's a minor inconvenience. For an unreleased film cut, a legal deposition transcript, or an internal company all-hands recording, it's a real risk, and often against the terms of the NDA or client agreement governing that footage in the first place.
SubToolDesk's mission is narrow and specific: build subtitle and transcript conversion tools that are genuinely useful, fast, and free, while making the "no upload" promise structurally true rather than a line in a privacy policy. If a feature can't be built without sending your file to a server, we don't build it.
How it's actually built
Every conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to any server, which means there's no step where it could be intercepted, logged, or stored elsewhere.
There is no account system, no database storing your files, and no analytics pixel tracking what you paste into the tool. Your subtitle content never leaves your device.
Who maintains this
SubToolDesk is built and maintained by an independent web developer focused on fast, privacy-respecting browser-based utilities. Bug reports, format edge cases, and feature requests are welcome. See the Contact page for how to reach us.
What's next
The roadmap includes additional format support (ASS/SSA subtitle files), batch processing of multiple files in one pass, and translation-ready export formats, all under the same client-side constraint that defines the project.
