Your files never touch a server

Last updated October 14, 2026. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what does and doesn't happen to your data.

The short version

When you use any converter on SubToolDesk (SRT to TXT, VTT to SRT, or any other tool on this site), the subtitle or transcript file you load is read and processed entirely inside your own web browser using the JavaScript FileReader API. It is never uploaded, transmitted, logged, or stored by SubToolDesk. We have no server-side code that receives, touches, or could even theoretically retain the content of your files. Closing the browser tab permanently erases it from memory.

What we do collect

Separate from your file content, a small amount of standard, non-identifying data is generated just by loading any website:

  • Hosting/CDN logs. SubToolDesk's static pages are served via Cloudflare's network. Like virtually every website, Cloudflare's infrastructure processes standard HTTP request metadata (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) to deliver pages and defend against abuse. This applies to the page itself, not to anything you type or upload into a tool, because nothing you type or upload is ever sent anywhere.
  • Local theme preference. If you toggle dark/light mode, that single preference is saved in your browser's localStorage so the site remembers it on your next visit. It never leaves your device and contains no personal information.
  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (gtag.js) to understand aggregate traffic patterns, such as which pages and tools are most used and how visitors found the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect standard usage data (pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site). This data is tied to a randomly generated analytics identifier, not to your name or email address, and is never connected to the content of any file you process in our tools. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking cookies/scripts from googletagmanager.com in your browser.

Advertising and cookies

SubToolDesk is a free service and may display advertising served by Google AdSense to help cover hosting costs. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. This is standard interest-based advertising and is entirely separate from, and has no access to, the content of any file you process in our tools.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or learn more about how Google uses data at Google's Partner Sites policy.

No accounts, no file storage

SubToolDesk has no login, no user accounts, and no database that stores subtitle or transcript content. There is nothing to breach because there is nothing retained. This is a deliberate architectural choice, not just a policy statement: the conversion tools are built so that uploading is never part of the flow.

Children's privacy

SubToolDesk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the site collects no account information from any user, this applies equally to all visitors.

Your rights

Since we do not collect, store, or process personal data beyond standard anonymous hosting logs, analytics cookies, and an optional local theme preference, there is generally no personal data held by SubToolDesk for you to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions about how analytics or advertising cookies on this site work, or any other privacy question, contact us using the details on our Contact page.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
